Violent Attacks on Ibiza Taxi Drivers Stir Island Concern
A series of violent incidents involving Ibiza taxi drivers has shaken the local community. On Monday night, two taxi drivers were victims of separate armed attacks, raising alarm over the growing risks these professionals face on the island.
Two Disturbing Incidents in One Night
The first attack took place near the Hipercentro, where a man in a blue hoodie robbed a taxi driver. The attacker threatened the driver, claiming he would “cut him,” if he did not comply. The driver, fearing for his life, gave the robber only a few five-euro bills from his wallet. The attacker is still at large, seen wandering around the Botafoc area.
In another incident, a black Mercedes was spotted driving erratically near the Ibiza airport. When a taxi driver tried to signal the vehicle, the driver of the Mercedes pointed a gun at her. A male taxi driver reported that the same black Mercedes had also targeted him with a gun earlier that night. Authorities believe that the vehicle may be a rental.

Professional Concerns Mount
Local taxi associations, including El Arca, have expressed growing concern over the rise of violent attacks on Ibiza taxi drivers. Julián Povedano, a representative of the group, warned that the situation has become “extreme.” He emphasized that the safety of taxi drivers is now at serious risk, with violent crimes becoming more frequent.
Ibiza authorities are investigating both incidents, and local officials have called for increased security measures to protect taxi drivers, particularly in high-risk areas like the airport and the Hipercentro zone.
Call for Action
The violent attacks on Ibiza taxi drivers have triggered a public call for stronger enforcement of safety protocols and more visible police presence in areas frequented by taxi drivers. As concerns grow, the community is hoping for swift action to prevent further violence.
