This Thursday at 9:00 a.m., Uber kicks off its operation in the municipalities of Palma, Calvià, Andratx, and Llucmajor in the Balearic Islands, yet it is not available in Ibiza. The ride-hailing giant is offering a mix of services including Taxi, Uber Comfort, VTC premium, and Uber Van that caters to groups of up to six people. The company will also introduce its Comfort Reserve service in the coming days, enabling users to schedule their rides up to 90 days in advance.
Enhancing Collaboration with Taxi Sector
Uber’s debut in the Balearic Islands highlights the company’s resolute pledge to foster partnerships with the local taxi sector. This initiative aims to effectively address the significant increase in mobility demand experienced in Mallorca in recent years, particularly during the summer months. Uber’s internal data confirms over 135,000 users tried to use the app in Mallorca in 2022.
Benefits for Taxi Drivers
Taxi drivers who join the Uber platform stand to benefit from several incentives valid until August 31, 2023. Uber exempts them from service commission, rewards €300 per successful referral, and offers a €150 bonus after 25 trips. Drivers who complete 50 trips weekly for four weeks will earn an additional €300 per week.
Strategic Partnership with OK Mobility
Uber’s Balearic Islands launch coincides with a strategic partnership with OK Mobility, a collaboration intended to offer users an expanded variety of mobility alternatives during their stay in Mallorca. Uber monitors initial operations closely, considering expansion to other municipalities on the island, with Ibiza currently excluded.
