Squid Fair 2024 Winners: Calamari Bao and Frita Take Top Honors – The eighth edition of the Fira des Calamar, held this Saturday, crowned calamari as an exotic yet local gastronomic delicacy. The jury awarded a “calamari bao” in the professional category and a “calamari frita” in the amateur division.
Record Attendance and Gastronomic Delights
Organised by the AAVV La Unión and the Sant Carles Festival Commission, with participation from the Santa Eulària des Riu Town Council, the Fishermen’s Guilds, Peix Nostrum, and the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, the fair served a total of 14,000 portions of the popular product. The 1,500 kilograms of calamari cooked this Saturday delighted attendees.
Professional Category Winners
A total of 22 groups competed, presenting their calamari creations vying for the best dish award at the Fira des Calamar 2024. In the professional category, the first prize went to Restaurant Mei for their “calamari bao”. They were followed by Bar Es Poble with a “Calamari Frita”, and Atelier del Gusto with “Noodles with Sauce and Calamari”.
Amateur Category Highlights
In the amateur section, the “Blue Squid” team secured first place with a “San Carlos Calamari Frita”. They were followed by Antares with their “Calamari Sandwich”, and in third place, the “Sant Jordi Brothers” with a “Sant Jordi Calamari Frita”.
Family-Friendly Activities and Awards
The day also included various children’s activities, making it a family-friendly event. The six winners received a sculpture from the Ibizan company Frigolades and a commemorative apron. The Squid Fair celebrated the winners for their creativity and contribution to local gastronomy.
