Prohens Pledges Priority Mental Health Treatment in Ibiza
Mental Health in Ibiza: Marga Prohens, the current president of the Government, has declared this Monday in Ibiza that, for the first time, a general director will helm Mental Health. The Government plans to prioritize this department in its new organizational structure.
A Necessitated Change
During a discussion with health practitioners and patient groups from Ibiza, Prohens acknowledged the dire state that the new administration has discovered itself in with regards to the Can Misses Hospital. In her words, “The situation is far from ideal. The first step towards resolution, however, is admitting that there’s a problem.”
This administration has identified a profound deficit of medical professionals, attraction plans, and strategies for retaining these experts.
Prioritizing Mental Health
Shifting focus to mental health, Prohens elaborated on the intended role of the newly appointed general director. Their task will involve the integration of healthcare and social health resources to provide prioritized mental health treatments.
Challenging Oncology Positions in Ibiza
Aside from mental health, President Prohens has also committed to labelling Oncology positions in Ibiza as a “priority,” due to the difficulty in filling them. She proposes a new supplement for these specialists.
Though she couldn’t state exactly when these Oncology positions will receive this designation, she confirmed that plans are underway for initial improvements by September.
“Remuneration is not the only issue. We need a comprehensive plan that includes management, reconciliation, professional development, and training,” she added.
Future Measures for Oncology
Prohens revealed that the Ministry of Health is in talks with oncologists to set up these strategies for the short, medium, and long-term. She emphasized that complex problems like these cannot be resolved overnight.
Furthermore, she indicated that efforts are in place to ensure that if oncologists from Son Espases must continue commuting to Ibiza, they will always tend to the same patients to maintain continuity in their relationship.
Mental Health in Ibiza
In conclusion, Prohens reminded that during her campaign, she pledged to visit the hospital and hold a primary meeting with patient groups in Ibiza. Despite their existing knowledge and careful diagnosis of the healthcare issues in the island, she said that this visit and communication is necessary.
