More than 200 people reported for drug possession during the weekend of ‘openings’ in Ibiza
Over the course of a long holiday weekend, marked by ‘openings’ on the island of Ibiza, more than 200 people were reported for drug possession and over 20 were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol. The Guardia Civil, along with local police, implemented a security plan that resulted in a relatively incident-free weekend.
Guardia Civil Reports on Drug Possession Charges:
The Guardia Civil reported the majority of the drug possession charges (172) in the Sant Josep and Sant Antoni areas. They were able to mobilize reinforcements from the Agrupación de Reserva y Seguridad (ARS) to supplement the island’s police force. The weekend passed without any major incidents, according to the Office of Peripheral Communication (OPC) of the Guardia Civil.
Local Police Reports on Drug Possession and Traffic Offences:
The local police force of Sant Josep also reported a similar number of drug possession charges, with approximately 30 people charged. The majority of these charges were filed in the early hours of Monday morning, according to municipal sources. The police also arrested four people for falsifying documents and reported 26 vehicles for various traffic violations.
In addition, six drivers were charged at the last special checkpoint, four for alcohol and two for drug intoxication. Police officers also seized a luxury vehicle that was caught transporting passengers irregularly. The intermediary who arranged the transportation was identified and will also be charged.
Ibiza Local Police Charges
According to municipal sources, the Ibiza local police force reported 15 charges for various offenses over the weekend, with eight of these related to driving under the influence of alcohol. Three of these cases involved charges for driving with blood alcohol levels above 0.60 mg/l, which is a criminal offense under Spanish law. The police have filed charges against these drivers for violations of traffic safety.
Two individuals were also charged with driving with suspended licenses, and five were charged with driving under the influence of drugs.
Despite the relatively high number of drug possession and traffic offenses reported over the holiday weekend, the overall security plan implemented by the Guardia Civil and local police forces appeared to have been successful in maintaining public safety.
