Illegal Taxis in Ibiza: Drivers Test Positive for Multiple Drugs
In the early hours of Monday morning, Local Police, in collaboration with the Consell Insular, intensified their ongoing crackdown on illegal taxis in Ibiza, often referred to as “taxi pirata.” The latest operation resulted in the removal of ten vehicles from the roads and the issuance of multiple fines for unlicensed passenger transport. However, what stood out in this operation was the alarming discovery that several drivers tested positive for a wide array of drugs.
Crackdown on Unauthorized Transport Services
The police operation began around 5 AM, targeting various points across the city. A total of nine drivers were caught providing transportation services without the necessary administrative authorization. These actions are part of a broader effort to eliminate illegal taxi operations, a growing concern for local authorities.
In addition to the unlicensed taxis, VTC (vehicle for hire) drivers were also found to be in violation of regulations. Several vehicles were identified providing services without the required prior registration of passengers, as stipulated by local laws.

Alarming Drug Test Results
Of the drivers involved in illegal transport services, four were subjected to drug tests. The results were shocking—each driver tested positive for various substances. One driver, particularly concerning, tested positive for every detectable drug, including cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamines, cannabis, opiates, and benzodiazepines.
The municipality highlighted this case as an example of the severe dangers posed by illegal taxi operations on the island. These drivers violate transport laws and endanger passengers and other road users due to their impaired state.
Municipal Actions and Consequences
Two licensed taxi drivers from other municipalities were fined for picking up passengers in unauthorized areas. Police recorded thirteen traffic-related offenses during the operation, and the municipal tow service impounded ten vehicles.
The Ibiza City Council stressed that these intensified checks show their commitment to curbing illegal transport and ensuring road safety. The effective coordination between the Local Police and the Consell Insular drove the success of this operation.
