Ibiza’s Migrant Crisis Reaches Breaking Point as Leaders Urge Government Action
Ibiza is facing an unprecedented migrant crisis, with local authorities struggling to accommodate unaccompanied minors arriving on the island. Vicent Marí, president of the Consell de Ibiza, has raised concerns about the island’s capacity to handle the influx. He emphasized that the government must take responsibility and provide immediate support.
Migrant Center Overcapacity
The main facility for unaccompanied migrant minors, the Pare Morey Youth Center, is overwhelmed. It currently houses 42 minors, including some under the care of the Consell Insular de Formentera. Marí explained that the center has reached its limit, with no space left to accommodate more migrants.

“This isn’t a question of solidarity, but of capacity,” said Marí. The island’s infrastructure is under extreme pressure, and more minors arriving would only exacerbate the situation.
Ibiza Migrant Crisis: Government Urged to Act
At a recent President’s Conference in the Balearic Islands, Marí called on the Spanish government to take immediate steps to address the crisis. He suggested re-establishing diplomatic ties with Algeria to stem the flow of migrants at the source. “We need serious migration policies,” Marí added, urging the government to strengthen law enforcement in the Balearic Islands.
With public resources stretched thin and no available housing or professional support, Ibiza’s leaders are demanding urgent intervention. Marí stressed that the national government must stop avoiding its responsibilities and find a sustainable solution.
