Hippy Markets ibiza: A Balearic Charm and Beauty
The Best Hippy Market in Ibiza for Handmade Crafts and Vintage Finds
Ibiza is home to a plethora of attractions, and its marketplaces are undoubtedly one of them. These markets emerged during the hippy invasion of the 60s when bartering became a way of life. Today, each locality has its own marketplace, with Es Canar (Punta Arabí Hippie Market), Las Dalias, Sant Jordi, Sant Joan de Labritja, Forada, and San Rafael being the most prominent.
Sant Jordi Market: Perfect Destination for Second-Hand Goods
Located in the town’s racecourse, Sant Jordi market is the perfect destination for those who love second-hand goods. It’s only three kilometers from Ibiza town, and many locals go there as a regular leisure activity. Its product range is as wide as it is suggestive: clothes, toys, books, collectibles, furniture, jewelry, and practically everything imaginable. The presence of Mercedes vans with psychedelic decorations gives it a unique touch. The market is open every Saturday of the year from 8 am to 3 pm.
Las Dalias Market: The Most Famous and Chic Marketplace
Situated on the outskirts of San Carlos, Las Dalias is the most famous and chic marketplace in Ibiza, although it is more expensive than the others. It’s an iconic place for discovering and buying items while offering continuous entertainment. It’s open all year round, except on Saturdays and holidays. During summer, Christmas, and Easter, it acquires a unique relevance. On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights in summer, it opens until the wee hours as Night Market.
Punta Arabí Hippie Market in Es Canar: The Oldest Marketplace in Ibiza
Considered the oldest market in Ibiza, the Punta Arabí Hippie Market is in Santa Eulalia del Río, specifically on Avenida Punta Arabí. It dates back to 1973 and originated from a mythical hotel in the area, which provided space for local artisans. Today, it offers an unparalleled family experience, with children having a fun space called El Chiringuito, where they can draw, listen to music, eat paella, and enjoy with other children. The market opens its doors from April to October, starting at 10 am, with closing time varying depending on the dates, between 6 and 8 pm.
Sant Joan de Labritja Market: A Unique Municipality with Cozy Beaches
Sant Joan de Labritja market is located in a beautiful village with white houses, bicentennial churches, cozy beaches, and stimulating hiking trails. It’s also known as the San Juan market, and it’s one of the most genuine and original. It’s held on Sundays, weather permitting, between the town’s narrow streets. Its distinctive features are the animation, wide commercial offer, live music, food and drink stalls, and friendly conversations between the creators and visitors. It’s open from 9 am to 4 pm.
Forada Market: An Alternative Hippy Market in Ibiza
Forada Market has an alternative style that evokes the origins of the initial Ibizan movement. It’s essentially focused on ecological activity, offering natural products such as scented candles made with essential oils, herbal liqueurs, native honey, different types of bread, natural soaps, and more. It’s held every Saturday of the year.
