Hotel Occupancy Declines in Pitiusas for August 2024
The Pitiusas Islands saw a slight decline in hotel occupancy during August 2024, registering a 1.1% drop compared to the same month in 2023. Santa Eulària experienced the largest decline, with hotel bookings decreasing by 8%, marking a significant downturn for the popular tourist destination.
Santa Eulària Records Notable Drop
Santa Eulària, a key area in Ibiza, experienced the most significant decrease in hotel occupancy, with an 8% reduction compared to August 2023. This sharp drop stands out as the highest among all municipalities in Ibiza and Formentera, signaling challenges for the local tourism industry.
Meanwhile, the northern part of Ibiza saw a smaller decrease of 1.6%. Eivissa and Sant Josep followed with 0.9% and 1% declines, respectively. However, Sant Antoni, another major tourist area, maintained stable occupancy rates at 93.39%, identical to last year’s figures.

Formentera’s Mixed Results
Formentera started the month strong, with a 90.38% hotel occupancy in the first half of August. However, the second half saw a significant drop, ending the month with an overall occupancy of 86.63%. This contributed to a 1.6% decline for the entire month compared to 2023.
Despite the drop, the overall hotel occupancy for both Ibiza and Formentera between May and August 2024 remained strong. Ibiza’s occupancy from May to August reached 83.99%, slightly lower than 2023’s 84.84%. Formentera, however, saw a slight increase, rising from 74.55% in 2023 to 75.19% in 2024.
Seasonal Overview
While August saw some declines, the broader 2024 tourist season from May through August remains relatively positive. Formentera’s slight overall improvement and Ibiza’s minimal decline suggest that the Pitiusas islands still enjoy a healthy flow of tourists, though the August figures hint at potential adjustments needed to maintain strong numbers for the future.
