Nitrous Oxide Operation in Ibiza – In a significant victory against the illegal trade of nitrous oxide, Sant Antoni police recently detained five individuals. The arrests took place during two separate operations targeting the sale of nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas.”
Major Seizures in Sant Antoni
In the first raid, authorities apprehended three Spanish nationals who were caught unloading suspicious boxes from a vehicle on Metge Mateu Gasull Street. A search of the vehicle revealed 78 canisters of nitrous oxide and €18,190 in cash. The suspects hid the large sum of money in their personal bags and the vehicle door.
Shortly afterward, another operation unfolded in the ses Variades area. Police observed two British men hurriedly transferring boxes between vehicles, which raised suspicion. A thorough search led to the discovery of 35 canisters of nitrous oxide, 30 dispensers, 100 balloons, and cash amounting to €4,730 and £1,450. Both cases led to immediate arrests under charges of public health offenses.

These arrests form part of a broader initiative to curb the illegal nitrous oxide trade in Sant Antoni. The local police have launched 66 investigations this summer alone, leading to 15 restraining orders and one prison sentence. Authorities will continue their crackdown, focusing on public safety.
The town’s Security Councillor, Neus Mateu, praised the police’s efforts and highlighted the stricter penalties now in place for those involved in the illegal trade of nitrous oxide. Cooperation with the Guardia Civil and prosecutors has strengthened law enforcement measures, ensuring that Sant Antoni remains vigilant against this harmful trade.
