The crash, which overturned the ambulance, occurred around 4 a.m. outside the Hotel Marco Polo, drawing attention from both locals and tourists.
Tourist Captures the Crash
A tourist staying at the hotel accidentally captured the aftermath of the collision on video. Initially recording an unrelated scene, the tourist turned the camera after hearing the loud crash. The footage shows the ambulance overturned, lying on its driver’s side, while emergency responders rushed to the scene.
According to local sources, the ambulance had been parked on the sidewalk while attending a service at the hotel. The driver of the Audi, who was later found to be intoxicated, crashed into the vehicle with enough force to flip it onto its side. In addition to damaging the ambulance, the impact knocked over a traffic sign and struck a parked Mini nearby.

Eyewitnesses report that the driver, who appeared heavily intoxicated, fled the scene after the crash. However, his attempt to escape was short-lived. Police had set up a control point just a few meters down the road, where the Audi driver was stopped. Officers performed both alcohol and drug tests, which came back positive, leading to his immediate arrest.
Fortunately, no one inside the ambulance was seriously injured during the incident. The authorities continue to investigate the crash as local residents express concerns over reckless driving on the island, especially involving rental cars.
