Can Rova Exploiter Faces €2.4 Million Fine in Ibiza
The exploiter of the Can Rova shanty settlement in Ibiza is facing a hefty fine of €2.4 million. This follows the eviction of the settlement on 31 July. Ibiza authorities are taking firm action against illegal housing practices.
Ibiza Authorities Impose Heavy Fine
Housing Councillor José Luis Mateo announced the fine during a parliamentary session on Tuesday. He explained that the resolution includes 80 “very serious” infractions under the regional Housing Law. These relate to 80 precarious constructions classified as substandard housing. The Can Rova exploiter fined in Ibiza signifies a strong stance against housing law violations.
Publication of the Resolution
The resolution is currently being notified to the property owner. It will be published in the official bulletin this week. Mateo added that agreements with Ibiza institutions will be signed soon. These aim to construct over 600 social housing units. The government is actively addressing the housing problem and acting against those who break the law.
Calls for Rental Price Limitations
Socialist deputy Marco Guerrero responded by urging limitations on rental prices. He called for more public housing to curb illegal settlements like Can Rova. Guerrero stressed that without action, residents evicted due to unaffordable rent will become the government’s responsibility.
